Thunderbird plugin: create an opportunity or lead from email

Post by marrcopolo » Thu Feb 17, 2011 4:48 pm

It would be really great if there was an option to create a new opportunity from an inbound email - not very complex - just an opportunity name and maybe a couple of the default opp fields if possible. Then if after archiving such email (and thus creating a new opportunity) a browser window would pop-up with the new opportunity in a web view - that would be just magic... :-)

Jon - this is excellent functionality and I use it everyday now - thanks so much.

One thing about it is a little user awkward. Here's what you can do today in order to create an opportunity from an email:

1. select an email and hit archive button
2. select create opp from drop-down list
3. populate fields and submit - opp is created and you are back at the search window, but you still want to file the email to the new opportunity...
4. search the opportunities in order to find the recently created opportunity
5. select opportunity
6. adjust the subject of the email if needed (another great feature btw!!)
7. hit archive button - the email is archived to the recently created opportunity - Opacus window closes

I think this flow would make better sense though and save half the work:

1. select an email and hit archive button
2. adjust the subject of the email if needed
3. select create opp from drop-down list
4. populate fields and submit - opp is created and email is filed to it immediately - Opacus window closes

Thanks for the excellent support...

Hi Marco,

The process as I imagine it is a little different:

1: Find email from which to create opp. Click on Archive to open Search window
2: Click on Create > Opportunity and fill in details. Email address of Sender is in the contact search field - search and select Contact to relate the Opp to.
3: Click on the Create button. Create window closes and triggers a search for the contact, and if Opportunities is selected in the module list the new Opportunity is visible in the results (because it was related to the contact in step 2).
4: Edit email as desired, tick the Opp/Contact/Account results and archive.

If we only archive the mail to the new opp we don't give the user the opportunity ( :) ) to choose any other records. We could archive by default to Opp, Contact and Account in this case, but it's likely that would not suit everybody. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks,

Jon
